PROTECTING YOURSELF AFTER SELLING/REMOVING A VEHICLE
Not only do we help you file the Notice of Sale and confirm its receipt—we ALSO send you the official government confirmation to your email for your records.
PROTECT YOURSELF: Don’t Skip These Two Steps After Selling or Removing a Vehicle
When you sell, trade, donate, or stop using a vehicle, it’s not just about handing over the keys. To protect yourself legally and financially, Florida law recommends two critical steps:
1. Surrender Your License Plate
If the plate isn’t being transferred to another vehicle, it must be returned to the state.
This helps prevent future tolls, tickets, or insurance issues tied to your name.
2. File a Notice of Sale
This simple form officially tells the state that you are no longer responsible for the vehicle. It protects you from liability if the new owner fails to register, gets into an accident, or racks up violations before they register the vehicle.
Why It Matters?
Skipping these steps could leave you legally tied to a vehicle you no longer own. Protect your name, your record, and your peace of mind.

Our notary public is available Monday to Friday for documentation assistance. Notaries verify signers’ identities, witness signatures, and administer oaths; they do not provide legal advice or services under Florida law. We offer a guide to the two most common notarizations: Acknowledgments and Jurats.
Below please find the main difference between these two acts, Jurat and Acknowledgment.
What is an Acknowledgment? The act is intended for a signer, whose identity has been verified, to declare to a Notary or notarial officer that he or she has willingly signed a document.
What is Required?:
1) The signer must appear in person before the notary and positively identify themselves.
2) The notary must positively identify the signer according to state’s rules.
3) The signer may either sign the document before appearing before the notary, or in their presence. The notary may perform an acknowledgment if the document was signed prior to the signer appearing before the notary.
4) The signer must declare (acknowledge) signing the document for its intended purpose
What is a Jurat? This act is also known in some states as a “verification upon oath or affirmation” — Is intended for a signer to swear to or affirm the truthfulness of the contents of a document to a Notary or notarial officer.
- What is required? The signer must appear in person before the notary and sign the document in the notary’s presence. The notary may not perform a jurat for a signature that was made prior to the signer appearing before the notary.
- The signer is required to positively identify themselves.
The notary must administer a spoken oath or affirmation, and the signer must respond out loud. Silent answers such as a nod of the head are not acceptable.
